this episode is really quite terrible for safira’s family. the materialistic sister farah has put them in hot soup! but maybe it will act as catalyst for the mother to stand on her own two feet. hmmm …

safira and aditya’s relationship gets more intimate this week as they go on their first date. hahahaha. so sweet. young love … aah. i tell you, there’s nothing like innocent young love. honestly. especially when it’s just touching hands, kisses on the cheeks … when it gets too physical, that’s when the romance wears off. hold off sex kids. or you will miss the sweetness of a relationship that you would want to look back with a smile.
enjoy.

aditya and safira must be the sweetest tv couple ever! heheh. great casting. am only going to post the nice bits. the rest you gotta go to youtube.
watched my first movie in brunei. hahaha. believe it or not.
went to the mall in gadong. being a pj girl, i hv to say … i do miss PJ, yo!
there’s only 4 movies shown and they’re all kinda … well, not so exciting. terminator, night at the museum, syurga cinta and one other movie which i can’t remember.
so, anyway … watched night at the museum 2 … wow … not bad actually. personally, i don’t really care too much for ben stiller. but in this movie, he’s not bad. looks kinda sad, as per character. or maybe he just is. none of that usual wise-cracking attitude.
basically it’s about ben stiller’s character, i think his name is luke daley (cant even remember! thats how memorable it was! heheh) who is now a rich entrepreneur/inventor whose museum buddies are getting shipped off to the smithsonian. but the mischievous monkey took away the egyptian table which gives them life. so of course he has to go to the smithsonian to rescue them and return the tablet as theres an evil egyptian king who wants the tablet to dominate the world and beyond. so, he became a night watchman (impersonating) to gain access and met amelia earhart who is kinda his love interest shop passing in the night thing. i love ricky gervais in this movie. he’s always funny.
of course, it’s not that great … but okay for a night out at the cinema.
the theatres are smaller but that’s understandable.
but i do miss the movie theatres in pj. lots more choices. and also you can get hot dogs, etc . here they only offer popcorns. so, we had to smuggle some food in. hahahahahah. heck, i was hungry, ok!
but hey, it’s the first time i’ve ever gone to see a movie early and went home early. amazing.
anyway, i called bf afters … and told him how much i miss our movie date nights. it’s a ritual with us. we get the snacks somewhere else, if we have time. crisps and chocs. for him, those jelly babies, worm stuff. he loves that! and nips. and mineral water also … and of course wet wipes!!!!
if we have had dinner before, we don’t go crazy on the snacks.
favourite places is midori at the curve for fast japanese bento sets. i love the green tea with vanilla ice cream. ummmm…yum.
i guess i do love my bf. or do i just love these familiar rituals?
but guess what, just last year, i kept complaining that all we do is watch movies. lololol!
the grass is alwayyyyyys greeener on the other side. yo!
anyway, it’s not even midnight yet and the night seeems soooo long.
i guess it’s coz i don’t have a tv. and the temptation to buy one is veryyyy strong. but honestly, i don’t watch much stuff on rtb. mostly tv2. and i don’t have any of those aerial sockets. so … it’s a risk. but i guess, it would be nice to have some noise in this room.
hmmm … we’ll see.
i have freakin’ writer’s block.
watched Privileged on RTB2. Megan is so anal. Lily is a disaster zone. Will is adorable.
i am an avid reader of The Malaysian Insider. mainly because of all the comments submitted by readers … hahahahaha. politicians don’t really have to get an expensive agency to find out what Malaysians think. just read the comments posted below the articles, and you can really guess what the average urban/suburban middle class multi-ethnic voter is thinking about in regards to politics as usual. Of course, the other reason i read TMI is because it’s design is user friendly AND it’s FREE! try getting on Malaysiakini without a subscription … groaan.
i also read Harakah online. to know what the other side is thinking about. it’s interesting how Harakah, thought of a few years ago as an old man’s party, has jumped on the Internet bandwagon a lot earlier than UMNO’s mouthpieces. Harakah is even on Twitter. ha.ha.ha. heck, even i don’t know (and at the moment is not interested) how to use Twitter. but a young colleague said it’s good for making cheap international calls.
oh, and i also read The Star. when in Malaysia i would also read NST, Berita Harian and sometimes Utusan Malaysia (but it’s really boring coz too one-sided). But in Brunei, i just rely on TMI and The Star. One thing i like about The Star (eventhough it’s owned by MCA) is that it does a lot of community-based events esp focusing on teens. they are good at this community outreach stuff. which i don’t see the other Malaysian papers doing so much.
at home, my dad will buy Utusan … it’s his bedtime, or naptime reading. he gets comfortable on the sofa, reads a few pages, then dozes off … this happens esp after lunch. even though dad says (and it’s common knowledge) that Utusan is very pro-Umno … he says it’s good to read to understand the Malay psyche. i don’t think it’s Malay as much as Umno. so … whatever. some of the stuff in Utusan is interesing, but i could never stomach the stuff by Astora Jabat. don’t think he’s on their payroll anymore. wonder what happened to him.
read that TMI is going to have a print edition. hmmm … i wonder whether tht’s going to be another NST. i say, a waste of paper. unless they are trying to reach the non-urban population who don’t go online. then they should create a Malay edition.
well … more profit for the paper lama guy.
honk honk … paper lamaaaaa, old newspaper … paper lamaaaa, old newspaper! heheheh.
oh, in Brunei, you can read Borneo Bulletin or The Brunei Times. These are the only two English newspapers published. Borneo Bulletin or BB is tabloid-sized AND tabloid. The Brunei Times or BT is broadsheet. If you read BT, you’d think life in Brunei is hunky-dory and crime free. but BB will pull you back to earth: smuggling, rape, incest. yup. it happens here too. but still … this place is a paradise compared to KL. muggings, snatch theft everywhere. urgh! and yes, i … like most women living in the Klang Valley have been mugged at one point in my adult life. Have handbag, be victim. Have handphone, be victim. so crazy. in Brunei, i can heave a sigh of relief. not having to look over my shoulder. but who knows? we can’t be too sure.
had to post this. saw the last 40% of the Malay drama Intan Sayang Manja on i think RTM just now. very funny. and directed by Shahrulezad Mohamedin. just discovered that he is actually the talented young director of Emil Emilda (another hilarious work) among others. found only one photo of him. i have to say. HE IS GOOD! apart from my other fav director son of Zami Ismail, Hitler Zami who directed the crazy Dunia Baru.
but i will always hold Meor Hashim Manap at the top of my director’s list.
anyway, Jue Aziz plays the lead in Intan Sayang Manja. She’s very versatile and she glows on screen. I have to say, she’s one of my most favourite young Malay actors. i suspect she will go far only i hope she doesn’t screw it up with stupid scandals. hmm.
i hope they’ll show ISM again soon. very funny.
the US embassy in Brunei recently released a Nat Geo movie called Illicit: The Dark Trade. i read it in the papers. i think there’s going to be a screening at UBD (Universiti Brunei Darussalam). at the media launch, the US rep touched on pirated DVDs in Brunei, how Brunei needs to do more, blabla. i don’t blame him or the US govt for being worried. as a creative person with a bf who’s a composer/musician … i am concerned about it.
in Brunei, though, you can find these pirated DVDs or VCDs everywhere, in the shopping malls, in shops … it’s not undercover like in Malaysia. since the malaysian govt began a campaign against piracy, it’s really difficult to find pirated stuff. stimes, those guys (the Jinjang type) would set up a makeshift stall in a dark corner … like the one near 7-11 in damansara perdana. don’t know whether they are still there though. most of the time, you get crap stuff. stimes, they’d come up to you while you’re eating at the stalls. i guess, msians and bruneians think this issue is trivial. these people come to you. you don’t have to park your car to go rent a movie. how convenient is that? BUT everyone should be aware of the dark side of the industry … i was told by an ex colleague, a Chinese … that these pirated DVD sellers practise a type of dark magic where they collect menstrual blood for their ritual … i dunno what for, maybe to be invincible or sthing. they can be really dangerous. i know enforcement officers have been hurt when trying to wipe out their business.
anyway, in brunei it seems enforcement in difficult. this is what the minister told the media. i dunno how difficult it can be coz brunei is tiny. and the stuff is right out there in broad daylight. the minister also said because not a lot of bruneians hold copyrights, the issue doesn’t seem to be too crucial or sthing like that. ie, it’s not so pressing to deal with.
anyway, i bought a DVD set of House the other day at Gadong Centrepoint. It looks authentic. honestly, i don’t know whether it’s pirated or not. hard to tell, here because all the shops i go to have a mix of stuff. some original. then, they have those 4-in-1 offerings, and they even arrange these groups of movies alphabetically according to names of actors. if you like cate blanchett, you can buy a 4-in-1 set for just i think $4 to $6.
but i have to say, that the pirated stuff here is of better quality than the ones in Malaysia. that is total ripoff.
in the meantime, for expats … DVDs are a lifesaver. esp if you don’t have a life! LOLOLOL!

you know what would be really sick? if they sell pirated copies of Illicit. that would be major sick! groaaan …
